Apply NowThe medical degree awarded by Medical Faculty Foca is recognised across the entire European Union. Graduates holding the title Doctor of Medicine (MD / Dr. med.) may apply for medical licensure in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and all EU member states. The degree is equally recognised in Morocco and widely accepted across the Arab world as a European-standard medical qualification.
Under EU Directive 2005/36/EC, medical degrees from EU and associated states are recognised automatically. Bosnia and Herzegovina holds close ties to the EU through the Stabilisation and Association Agreement.
Graduates may apply for full medical licensure (Approbation) through the state medical chambers. Numerous alumni of Medical Faculty Foca are practising doctors in Germany today.
Recognition through the Medical Professions Commission (MEBEKO) is available. We actively support our graduates through the Swiss recognition process.
The degree is officially recognised in Morocco and regarded as an equivalent European medical qualification in further Arab countries — a strong asset for internationally mobile graduates.

Medical Faculty Foca is part of the University of East Sarajevo (Univerzitet u Istocnom Sarajevu), a state-funded Bosnian university with a long academic tradition. The faculty is fully accredited by Bosnia and Herzegovina's Higher Education Accreditation Body (HEABOA) and participates in the European Higher Education Area through the Bologna Process.
The medical programme at Medical Faculty Foca spans 6 years (12 semesters) and leads to the degree of Doctor of Medicine (MD). The curriculum follows the European standard and covers all areas of human medicine.

Medical Faculty Foca maintains active partnerships with European universities and offers students the opportunity to complete parts of their studies abroad. Erasmus+ mobility programmes enable study placements at partner institutions across the EU, with credits fully recognised upon return.
Student mobility to EU partner universities. All credits earned abroad are fully recognised in the home programme.
Practical training takes place at Bosnian hospitals and selected European partner clinics — hands-on from day one.
International students may enrol as visiting students for one or two semesters. Teaching languages: German and English.

Foca is a quiet, safe small city in south-east Bosnia, set against the mountain landscape of Republika Srpska. Student life is personal, international and focused — the ideal environment for an intensive medical programme, without the distractions of a large city.
Registration for the new academic year has begun. New international students from more than 15 countries are joining the programme in Foca. Applications are still being accepted.
